Socially Conscious Entrepreneurs – Net Impact / Ashoka Workshop
November 16th, 2017 – The CLU Online Chapter of Net Impact invited Lorena Garcia Duran, Director for the Ashoka Support Network in the US, for workshop on Social Conscious Entrepreneurs. The workshop was hosted by the Hive at the Claremont Colleges and was broadcast live online. In attendance were members of Claremont Lincoln University, the Claremont Colleges, and the LA Professional Chapter of Net Impact. The purpose of the workshop was to understand more about the movement of social entrepreneurship, what successful social entrepreneurs look like, and the importance of the role of changemakers.
Ashoka is a global organization committed to finding and supporting social entrepreneurs and ensuring they accomplish what they set out to do. Over the past 37 years, the organization has evolved and has been able to study what qualities make a successful social entrepreneur. In her talk, Lorena Garcia Duran explained that those qualities include deep empathy, innovation, a systemic view, a sustainable approach, and involving changemakers.
Dr. Anita Leffel, Dean of Social Impact at CLU, notes, “Lorena’s talk is timely and meaningful to all changemakers, new and experienced. At CLU, we want students to be active participants in the process of redefining systems to benefit others in a meaningful way.”
