Climate Change, Overcoming Fears, and Unemployment

On September 22nd, Claremont Lincoln University held its Fall 2017 Gathering Weekend, an event that gathers the global CLU community of students, alumni, and faculty for a weekend of networking, seminars, and discussions. One of the main events of the Fall 2017 Gathering Weekend was a set of short student presentations on the various ways leaders can overcome obstacles to change.

Take a look at some of the presentations below, dealing with the obstacles of climate change, fears adults face when going back to school, and the hurdles of unemployment.

Why Should Leaders Care About the Climate?

by Rob McManus

Leadership expert Ron Heifetz says that leaders must “go to the balcony” in order to facilitate the adaptive work of leadership. In order to do that, we have to see the “big picture” of what’s going on in our organizations. Dr. McManus’s 8-minute presentation helps us “go to the balcony” and take a look at how leadership works and why the climate is just as important for effective leadership as any other resource.

You can also see Ron Heifetz’s classic Harvard Business Review article, “A Survival Guide for Leaders” to learn more about going to the balcony.

by Lynne Garcia

Sometimes fear is the only thing holding us back from achieving our life goals. One admissions counselor tells the story of confronting her own fears about going back to school as an adult graduate student.

What fears have you learned to overcome? How did you do it? Share your insights in the comments below.
